Embarrassing typos

fyi, no: it wasn’t me!

* Treat in the panty (pantry?).

* Yummy cocks (chocks) next to where i sit..

* Enjoyed your teat (treat) very much, thank you. Looking forward to next year.

Don’t trust friends; but trust office colleagues?

Story: unmarried women are allowed to go on over-night trips (aka office functions) with a large number of unknown people; some of them, whom their parents have never ever met!

But when we ask them to join us for a trip, they say “no permission”, despite knowing them, and their parents for ages. Why is this?

a) Parents do not trust us?

b) Female does not trust us?

c) Female does not want to speak to the parent and tell them they can trust us (and her)?

It is a sinking feeling, when the entire clique cannot go together. And in wired way, it makes me feel like chopped liver.

Hotel Rwanda

“… they are cockroaches…”

Let not, such crimes be repeated ever again. Let not, the UN and the international community sit and watch by, as such genocide, take place. And may there be more people who will have courage, and emotional capacity to stand up to those who commit crimes against humanity.

Hotel Rwanda is a movie to be watched.

As technology develops, hopefully it will get more difficult for such criminal activity to carry on; as camera phones become cheaper and goes in to the hands of ordinary people, they will be able to get these atrocities across. A picture, after all, tells a lot very quickly – and there is no lying: abu grab.

Royal Thai – Trans Asia

A friend came back home after a long time, and the gang decided to go to Royal Thai. This was the first time i went there – Superb! (pricey though, but definitely, money well spent.)

Garupa – some sort of a fish, prepared by frying (that is all i know). Where ever i go, i try an order Garupa. Royal Thai easily prepares the best! It is less oily, and you get flesh. Moreover, those who serve, nicely cut it properly, and drops it in to your plate.

Noodles – i am not  a noodle fan. Anyways, a friend ordered noodles, and i wanted to try it – it was great. I will order a portion of noodles next time i go there.

Service / ambiance – again, top of the range. We managed to get ourselves a separate dining area (there were about 10 of us)  and i loved the instrumentals songs.

A drink, alone; is it wrong?

Every now and then, when i get home, i take a drink alone. Now, a certain female friend (she is a very good friend of mine) got to know about this, and with good faith; she tells me that this is a practice that i should strive to avoid. Why, I ask her. She tells me that i could turn out to be an alcoholic, and that people should only drink with friends (definitely not enemies – unless, of course they break a Green-Label).

I just have one simple glass. Who on his right mind, would want to meet up with me for a single drink? none of my friends would!

In the good ole day, society frowned upon those who listened to music by themselves – music (the wireless, as they called it, i think) was meant to be shared. But now, we have portable music players that lets us isolate ourselves from the rest of the world – and is rarely frowned upon. Give me a friend (a close one) and i will finish a bottle with him (or preferably with her), but alone, let me enjoy this one glass! Anyways, i am blessed enough to have friends who disagree with me – but still be with me.

So what about God’s Nector? is it a not-done thing to enjoy it by yourself? What makes one, an alcoholic?

Loyalty

Last week, i heard the word loyalty many a time. First, it was when i met an ex-British Soldier. We were chatting and he said that on his way to Sri Lanka, he stopped over in Singapore to meet his old friends – Gurkhas. He went on to say that they were, and continue to be the most loyal friends he had/has. The way he put it across, it felt so good to hear.

Then, the word loyalty came across at a wedding: both the groom and bride, the best man, and the father of the bride used it. This was a military sort of wedding, and loyalty seems to run in everyone’s blood. Felt so good.

Lastly, i used it a few days ago – a friend of mine refused to join the dance floor with other women, as his wife was not there. Now, i do not have anything against married people just dancing with others, but that is not something i will do – when (if!) i find that special person; i will dance only with her (if she wants to dance with others, that would be fine – but i would be quite jealous)

Anyways, Kudos to loyalty!

Bogollas, Sarath Amunugama – lift

When Bogollas want to get in to the lift, his security (under his directions, i am sure) makes sure no one gets in to the lift. Guess he does not want to travel with us peasants in the lift. Bogollas, walks with his chin up; longish strides, with an air of royalty (or is it arrogance?)

Sarath Amunugama seems to be a different kettle of fish. The other day, he rode the elevator with me. Only one police office (bulky, well built dude) go in to the lift (with his gun firmly in the holster).

I couldn’t but admire Amunugama, and felt utmost disgust and contempt at Bogollas. What can we, the peasants do: MR is not able to  rein him in!

Tamils in lodges, asked to leave?

Today’s papers seem to say that the police want Tamils living in lodges, without a reason to leave the city. The criteria appears to be a) they be Tamil b) they have no valid reason to be in Colombo c) not own a property/ house in Colombo – presumably, if they did own a house, they would be owners, and will not be asked to leave!

The sad part is, a terrorist would have sufficient cash to buy him-self / her-self/ it-self a house. A not-so-well off human (Tamil or otherwise) would probably have to rent a house. And that not well off fellow would be asked to go back. What if, just what if, that Tamil was running away from the LTTE? can he prove it? well, perhaps when he gets a bullet, between his eyes, he could prove that there was a reason to leave his home town.

I have heard of Tamils who come to Sri Lanka on vacation, who do not visit their home town because they don’t want to pay money to the LTTE – apperently, the LTTE charges a fee from those who have worked abroad, and want to travel to terrorist controlled areas.

The right to terminate (legal framework)

After Justmal commented about Marie Stopes, on the hypothetical question (unmarried and pregnant), i visited the site. There was an article about legalising of abortion in Mexico. The cia fact book tells us that the majority are Christians; hence, it would have been a difficult task for the law makers. The pope also got involved in the debate.

Lets come home. There are unwanted pregnancies. I am not going to get involved in the debate on whether it’s right or wrong to terminate a pregnancy. Neither will i get involved in defining life. What i want to get involved in, is discussing and encouraging those in power to bring in a legal framework to terminate unwanted pregnancies.

Why should we legalise on demand abortion? – because despite it being illegal, abortion takes place (I know of a few). We need to make the procedure safe; We need trained people to do it; We need therapists to talk to these women – before and after an abortion. We need to give them care. All this can only be done, if we bring this issue to the open, and have a proper legal framework.

Is there any NGO or INGO working on this issue in Sri Lanka? or are they backing down due to religion/cultural pressures?
