Lanka Bell – new add claims moneys stays in LK.
I loved the new add. It was very well done. but does it tell the absolute truth?
It goes on to say something like, “i like Lanka Bell because the money stays in sri lanka and it is a sri lankan company”. Please correct me if i am wrong, i have seen it only once.
Unfortunately, they are not really telling us the truth.
Perhaps what they mean to say is that is it is locally owned, cash paid out as dividends will not directly be sent out of the country; but the owner may spend it on a cruise.
The bulk of the mobile industry capital expenditure relates to the purchase of equipment, which is imported to the country. Hence, the portrayal of cash not moving out of the country is not true.
Why am i fusing about this? firstly, it is a lie. Secondly, when it comes to the mobile, fixed line telecommunication sector, what should matter to customer is the service (cost etc) and not ownership. They are emphasising on a selling point, which will not benefit the customer or the industry.

Plus it’s a validation of patriotism. A plague which is destroying the country.
So Lanka Bell is using locally made infrastructure? HaHa
And most of all he didn’t pay the American owner and he didn’t send money out in that process that he is collecting form us now? haha
At the end of the day its service, service, service for me, Sri Lankan or not.
I don’t use either, but from what I’ve heard Suntel has better service and Lankabell has lower cost.
There is room for another to provide better service at a lower cost.
The Bell ads are all rubbish…. if all about funds staying in the country is true- how come we the consumers dont see anything of it being spent on us or in development of the telco sector in the country? Point being- look at Telekom Malaysia- they committed almost $200mil to develop SL infrastructure. SLT keeps investing on increasing the country’s international ISP bandwidth, Suntel keeps increasing industry service level benchmarks..
All Bell seems to be spending on is silly advertising with pop stars etc. Really I donno how their Marketing Head sleeps as night.. anyone called there call center? they keep you waiting for yonks and you are forced to listen to silly music so called promoting patriotism!
Wish others too would see the add for what it is…
patriotism could be a good selling point, when you have very little to sell…
lanka bell can do well if they can look after there exsisting customers before they get new base under there belt, best advertising will be the say of the exsisting users , i dont think sri lankans are dum to listen to all there crap about money stay here. tell me staying where? if the money staying in our country why we have been charge so much?
