Rewarding inefficiency?
The other day I was left working late and a senior colleague commented “wow, working late huh? good to see.” It was not said in a sarcastic tone, but it was meant as a compliment.
But the thing is, i was working later (than usual) because i had to sit in on a few meeting, which meant i could not do any work.
So, who gets noticed (positively)? the guys who leave work early? or those who work late?
Why people work late:
a) they are inefficient
b) they spend most their time attending meeting – some of which are un-necessary.
c) they come in to work late (but before the boss gets in)
So, who gets noticed by the boss? so, who gets rewarded more?
Pakistan’s suspension: what should LK do?
IMO, the General must go. I personally don’t have anything against dictators – a) as long as they take care of their people and have their people’s long term interest in their mind b) the world need such blood sucking good for nothing murderous dictators for the sake of stability in either the country or the region c) the country cannot handle democracy.
Pakistan is ready for democracy. The question that i like to ask is : Should LK condemn the suspension of Pakistan from the commonwealth or should it support the suspension?
LK should support the suspension:
To show that LK does not support the General, and to say that Pakistan should return to democracy
LK should not support the suspension:
The General has been good to us (he is, a friend of LK) – and has helped us in times of need. Therefore, we owe him our support at times of need
I for one, though grateful for what he had done for us, sadly, will support the suspension: This is a vote against / for the General and the people of Pakistan.
But everybody needs a car?
I was speaking the other day with a friend, and she asked me when i plan to buy a car. To this, i told her “not for sometime”, and i said that i have a cash flow issue. Then she suggests that i lease one. Then i tell her that i live almost centrally to the city and that the bus, the three-wheeler and the cabs suite me fine and that i really don’t need a car.
Then she says “but everybody needs a car!”
Well, if i had money, i would rather spend it on a lot more things than a car. For starters, i could AC my room. I could buy a lap top and i could have a sort of wifi spot at my house (so that i can check mail and reply from the wash room!) i could have a hot water bath etc. Its not that i don’t want a car, its just that there are more things that i like, than a car. i.e, the opportunity cost of buying a car is very high!
Vodka and Ice-cream
Mix Vodka (i use Smirnoff) and ice-cream 50/50. And keep stirring until there is no solid pieces of ice cream left. Wow, that makes a very good drink!
PS: This was not an original idea – had it once at one Ilgalato or something down Duplication road. Of course, their proportions where less generous and the stuff came in a dish and not a glass.
Cheers!
Why?
A lot of people ask this question when things go wrong. Some say “Kamma”; others say “Gods will”. Yet, as a person who cannot see kamma or God, i cannot ascribe to any of these.
So, where does this leave me? only to try and find the reason why things happen that way, by trying to look at what i did, and what i said. For a person who has no belief system, and for a person who cannot find others who think like him, life surely can and does become a bit lonely.
