Three women in hijab – looking cute

I was at the coffee stop yesterday when three Muslim women walked in. Foreigners. Covered from head to toe. Only skin to be seen was the face and the hands, downward from the wrist.

However the black hijab was made out of some good quality material. I think that the hijab is supposed to hide the figure, but this type of material and the way it was stitched sort of gave a pretty decent idea of the figure, but not too much. My guess is that they come from a country where they have to where a burka, but these ladies wanted to do what they wanted – within tradition.

They wore make up, and had done their eyebrows and lips nicely: they looked beautiful. They were so cute. It was amazing, and they were full of life.

Female school uniform

Why don’t they give girls the option to wear slacks to school? i.e. why don’t they give them the option of choosing either a skirt or slacks?

I think slacks are more practical. They can run without worrying, sit without worrying etc. Perhaps the only objection could be that they reveal the shape of the leg and bum; but a longish top, say up to about the thigh could cover that too. I think the positives out way the negatives.

And any thoughts of the Ladies College uniform? I think that the girls should be given the option as to whether or not they want to be sleeveless. And what about Visakha (yes, its Visakha and not Vishaka) where girls have to wear ties? Isn’t it pretty hot?

PS: These thoughts are only in relation to school uniforms, and definitely not for general wear. I love to see girls in skirts, either long, or short: as long as they are comfortable in it. The last thing I want to do is be seated next to a girl who more often than not, finds it necessary to adjust the hemline!

Eliot Spitzer and the story

Eliot Spitzer got caught arranging for a very high priced prostitute on tape. This is how the Economist reported it (link).

Imo, those in public office / holding higher positions in private organisations / aspiring to be in high places should not indulge in activities that could later be used to blackmail them; this includes soliciting the services of prostitutes. What would he have done, when he was the AG, if someone armed with a video tape of the the two requested him to make certain evidence disappear?

So, does a man of his calibre deserve a “private” life, and should the issue not have been made public? I believe anything which is proven, should be made public within the boundary of sanity. i.e. if he was going through a divorce, the public need not know the details- unless the wife accuses him and proves he hit or something similar.

Uhm, in LK, I think a certain judge managed to get away with something similar to this nature. Eliot Spitzer will either step down, or be forced to step down; at least, there will be an attempt. Eliot Spitzer seemed to have done a lot for the finance industry while the AG. Kudos for that, I just wish he had better judgement when it came to other matters, given his position and the enemies waiting to dig a knife in his back.

Cash awards

The following caught my eye “Thirteen individuals and team awards will be presented to over 50 winners who will also receive cash prizes amounting to Rs.5 million in total” in the Daily Mirror. That works to about LKR 100,000 on average per person!

Most companies would generally give some sort of a trophy, but very rarely, cash…

Lamprais – yum yum!

Had lamprais yesterday, after a long time! Bought a few “mixed meat” I think a few weeks ago, and we steamed and used it.

This place, near Royal / Thustain sells pretty good lamprias. The “mixed meat” has Mutton, Pork and chicken – this is the one that we go for. They sell “fresh” lamprais and frozen ones, we generally buy the frozen one because its convenient for us and imo, any food which is stored and used (especially meat), tend to be much tastier. We steam the frozen one instead of dashing it with microwaves.

The mixed meat lamprais is pretty close to the authentic lamprais: it does not have an egg (yes, eggs should not be there in a bloody lamprais…). Unfortunately no beef either. The traditional lamprais would have had beef, and would definitely have been smaller and I would have eaten about four or five! (those were the days).

They have a veg (I tried it one poya day, was good: but I would have liked it had they called it “veg special”or something like that as there can never ever really be a veg lamprais) and a chicken

Neither mother dear not I recall the name of the place, but the number is 2573.908

Fixing a cost for habits I want to change

I was intrigued by “An idea for lent | Carrot and Stick“.

I will implement something similar to my life, but link the monitory value to my take home pay per minute (i.e. monthly take home pay / (22 days * 9 hours per day * 60 minutes per hour). That way, the cost will increase when my pay goes up.

The cost would be as:
a) Overeating: 30 minutes of pay * 80%
b) Alco : No charge for Gods Drink, except
If I throw out: 9 hours worth of pay
Hangover: value of the number of hours incapacitated
c) The occasional puff I may have after a drink: 15 minutes worth of pay per stick *125%
d) Television (other than CSI / Dr House / news /documentary): value of time spent * 80%

Must see whether I need to add anything else, these are my first thoughts.
